You’re nearly there. You’ve become an approved adopter and now it’s all about finding the right placement for you and for the children that are waiting to be adopted.
You’ll have every chance to discuss children’s profiles with us and we will support you in finding the perfect match.
Once a match has been found we set up a link/matching meeting with ourselves and the agency looking after the children to share all the information we can so an informed and accurate link can be made.
Then, similarly to the Adoption Panel, a Matching Panel will consider whether the placement is suitable and we’ll make sure we’re there to support you through this.
Now it’s the exciting part, the first meeting between you and the child (or children).
We make sure that the meeting is well planned between you, ourselves and the child’s agency and that you’ve got all the information you need about the child to make the meeting as smooth as possible.
Gradually you’ll get to know the child and they’ll get to know you through a number of visits and planned outings.
This introductory phase can vary in length and can be dependent on the needs and age of the child.
After the introductions have been made, we’ll sit down together with you, the child’s carer and the agency responsible for the child to share our views and talk through any concerns you might have.
We’ll then set a date for the child to come and live with you.
It’s here. Todays the day you have a new member of your family.
Once a child has come to live with you, we’ll continue to visit you and support you in whatever way we can. We know that this can be a transition period so we offer as much help as possible to make the experience a positive one.
To make sure that the placement has been the right decision the local authority will meet with you and review how everything’s going, initially after a month, then three months and then six months thereafter until you’ve put in for an Adoption Order.
Before an Adoption Order is made we need to make sure enough time has gone by for the child to be settled and for you to be confident in the placement. This is usually a minimum of ten weeks.
It’ll then be up to you to apply for an Adoption Order and we’ll help you with making an application to the Court.
