MUMMY: Carrie? Taz? Can you come downstairs for a moment please? Daddy and I need to talk to you both.
MUMMY: You know how we’ve been talking about babies recently? Well, Daddy and I have decided that we’re going to speak to some people and see if we can look after a baby.
DADDY: Yes. We’re going to have a meeting soon but wanted to talk to you both about it first. A lady will be visiting our house tomorrow to talk to you about what will happen next.
TAZ: I’m super-duper excited! What do you think Carrie – will the baby be a boy or a girl?
CARRIE: I don’t know Taz. We’ll wait and see!
AFTER THE SW VISITS
TAZ: That lady was nice, wasn’t she?
CARRIE: I’m just glad that we’ll have a safe place to put our toys and things if we get a new baby. It’s annoying enough when Rusty runs off with my teddies…
TAZ: Yes, I don’t want the new baby getting hold of my dragon or yummy Easter Eggs.
CARRIE: I liked doing the colouring sheets with the lady and now we know all about what babies need, when they sleep and that sometimes Mum and Dad will need to help the baby – even when we want something.
TAZ: She liked looking at our life books too and the pictures of our tummy mummy.
MUMMY: So, what did you both learn today?
TAZ: The lady gave us a book to read with you and Daddy. It’s a duck story called Puddles the Baby Duckling about a duck that goes to live with another family for a bit. It’s not for Rusty though; he just likes eating books, not reading them!
CARRIE: The lady also said that it’s important for us to have a safe place to keep all our favourite things and toys if we get a new baby. Babies can’t play with big toys like we do.
MUMMY: Oh, look at the time! You two had better get some sleep. It is past your bedtime.
TAZ: One last question and then I’ll go to bed, I pinkie promise!
DADDY: Go on.
TAZ: Will the baby be here when we wake up tomorrow? Like Christmas morning?!
DADDY: No, it’s a little bit more complicated than that. Mummy and I be going for a meeting in about two weeks’ time. The social worker will then tell some people all about us and they’ll make a decision after that.
May be one of the child can ask when will they find out and then mum says that they have to go to a meeting in about 2 weeks and the social worker will tell some people all about us and they will make a decision
A few weeks later…
DADDY: We’re home!
CARRIE: So?? What did the meeting people say?
MUMMY: Go on Daddy….
DADDY: OK. We’re going to be looking after a baby but –
MUMMY: Hang on a minute Taz; it’s really important to listen carefully to what Daddy is saying.
CARRIE: So, we’re getting a baby then?
DADDY: Yes, but like I said before, it can be complicated and may take a bit of time. This may feel like a long wait but we just have to be patient.
Could we maybe add something here about it taking a bit of time and it might feel like a long time?
