CARRIE: Guess what Taz?
CARRIE: It’s going to be Christmas again next month!
TAZ: I can’t wait! Do you remember our very first Christmas together last year?
CARRIE: Yes, it was a day that I’ll never ever forget. All of that yummy food and we were even allowed to eat chocolate at bedtime!
TAZ: I got the toy dragon that I’d asked Santa for too; it has been on my Christmas list for such a long time. I broke it though…
CARRIE: I can’t remember that bit – what happened?
TAZ: I shouted and stamped on it. Mummy said it was because I was over excited and did not know what to do with my feelings.
CARRIE: Ah, I remember now. Daddy talked to us about jumping up and down or running around the garden when we feel like that and we did, didn’t we?
TAZ: Yes! Even though it was cold and rainy we ran and ran around the garden!
CARRIE: I felt a bit strange too; we’ve never really had a Christmas like that before, have we? I did like the new things that we did together, Mummy called them….erm…..
TAZ: Traditions! Things like opening presents when we get up and having a lovely breakfast together and going for a nice long walk after dinner.
CARRIE: Mummy and Daddy said that every single Christmas – even when we’re bigger – we will always do this together.
TAZ: Aw, I wish it was Christmas tomorrow! I wonder if we’ll get to put a tree up again this time. I really liked all of the twinkly lights in the living room.
CARRIE: My best bit was all the different foods we got to eat. Although I didn’t like the chocolates with the coffee flavour in them. Bleugh!
TAZ: That was so funny; you didn’t know what it was and Mummy giggled at the scrunched-up face you made!
CARRIE: I definitely like the strawberry ones better and will make sure I check the wrapper next time…
TAZ: I’d like to watch a film together again on Christmas Eve. That was nice.
CARRIE: Make sure you don’t fall asleep half way though again Taz!
TAZ: I thought if I fell asleep earlier, it would mean Christmas Day would come quicker!
CARRIE: Daddy had to carry you upstairs very quietly, like a mouse so that you didn’t wake up.
TAZ: I did wake up super-duper early the next morning though, didn’t I? Even though Mummy asked us not to wake her up before 6am, I forgot to look at the clock.
CARRIE: I don’t think they were expecting you to jump on their bed….
TAZ: I just felt so excited when I knew that Santa had been!
CARRIE: I felt sad when I woke up.
TAZ: Why? Isn’t everyone happy on Christmas Day??
CARRIE: Not always Taz, no.
TAZ: What made you feel sad?
CARRIE: I’m not really sure. Mummy and Daddy said that it might have been because I was missing people or that not all of our Christmases in the past have been happy ones.
TAZ: I don’t remember any Christmases before.
CARRIE: That’s ok too Taz, don’t worry.
TAZ: From now on, we’ll have lots of Christmases together though, won’t we? With traditions and family and twinkly lights?
CARRIE: Yes, we have lots of happy times to look forward to. Let’s hope Rusty doesn’t knock the tree over again next year!
